Write to the desk
One address reaches the people who write this guide: contact@50ways.org. There is no form on this site, no account to create and no newsletter, which means an email is the only way in and also the only thing we hold about you.
Write plainly and put what you want in the first line. If you are reporting a mistake, the page address and the sentence that is wrong are enough; you do not need to soften it. Corrections are the most useful mail this desk receives.
What the desk answers
We read everything and answer what we can, usually within a few days. We cannot promise a reply to every message, and there are three kinds we will always answer badly or not at all, so it is fairer to say so here.
- Advice about your own dog. We are not in a position to assess an animal we have not met, and a page cannot replace your vet or a qualified behaviourist.
- Requests to rehome or take in an animal. This site runs no kennel and moves no dogs. The shelter or the animal service covering your area is the right call, and it is the right call even when the answer is slow.
- Requests to publish an appeal for a named dog. We cannot verify it and we cannot keep it current, so publishing it would mislead readers long after the situation has changed.
Link requests, guest articles and sponsorship offers are covered by the sponsored content policy, and it is worth reading before writing.
Shelter staff and coordinators
If you work or volunteer in a shelter and a page here describes your work inaccurately, that is exactly the mail we want. Tell us what the page says, what actually happens where you are, and whether the difference is local practice or a plain error. Both change the page; they change it in different ways, because a local variation is worth naming as one.
We are also glad to hear about the gestures that are missing: the thing your shelter genuinely needs and that nobody offers. The list here is meant to grow from that kind of message rather than from what is easy to write about.
What we will not do is publish your organisation's details, adverts or fundraising appeals, however good the cause. The reasoning is on the about page, and it applies to every shelter equally.
